Ekkanisa y’oLuganda is an Anglican church congregation located at St Jude with St Aidan’s Church, Thornton Heath in the London Borough of Croydon, worshiping in Luganda language.

Ekkanisa y’oLuganda was formally inaugurated on 27th May 2007 by Emeritus Archdeacon Tony Davies and Venerable (Emeritus) Danny Kajumba under the Diocese of Southwark ‘Fresh Expressions’ initiative – a church plant based on people’s culture and language.  Under the Fresh Expressions initiative, migrant Anglicans in the UK can worship in their mother languages.
Prior to that, there was only one Luganda Anglican church service in the UK meeting to pray once a month at St John’s Church, Waterloo.  In the meantime, the number of Luganda speaking people in UK was growing.

So, when Rev Nathan Ntege – a Luganda speaking priest was appointed as the vicar at St Jude with St Aidan church, the Luganda speaking members of the congregation approached him with a request to seek permission from Southwark diocese for a Luganda Anglican church service at St Jude with St Aidan’s Parish church.

Ekkanisa y’oLuganda has grown from serving Luganda speaking Anglican Christians in South London to a multi-cultural congregation from Greater London, the whole of the United Kingdom and visiting Ugandans in the diaspora.
